Youth Mass are a four piece indie band, hailing from the sticks in Trim, Co. Meath. Formed in 2009, they released their debut EP Misanthropy in May 2010 to a sell out crowd in Crawdaddy, Dublin. Since it's release Misanthropy has received generous airplay on 2FM, TodayFM, Phantom FM and regional stations all over the country. Misanthropy has also been making waves overseas with highly influential DJ Steve Lamacq airing tracks on BBC radio in the UK and across the Atlantic with the EP's opening track, 'Tunnels', awarded Song Of The Week on MIT Boston's influential college station WMBR FM. Misanthropy has received favourable reviews from esteemed Irish publications Hotpress (reviewed in their live and track sections) and State.ie. The EP was also profiled on Phantom FMs Listening Post to which the band received an overwhelming response. The success of the EP has also earned them a much coveted session with 2FM's Dan Hegarty, recorded live in RTE's studios. Prior to the release of Misanthropy, Youth Mass have also had their music used on RTE shows such as 'The Raw Sessions', had their first demo awarded 'Demo Of The Month' on Phantom FM's ICON show, and were finalists in The JD Set and Phantom FM's Next Big Thing early in their career. Youth Mass' sound comprises of delayed guitars, tumbling bass and pounding drums influenced by indie stalwarts such as Neutral Milk Hotel, Doves, Joy Division, etc., with a little taste of hedonism fuelled by the blissed out noises made in the 90's by bands like Underworld, Orbital and Mogwai. Renowned for their euphoric live sets and having played all over Ireland, including some of Dublin's most notorious venues (The Button Factory, Whelans, The Village, Sugar Club, ALT, Crawdaddy), Youth Mass are currently preparing for the release of their second EP Mood Swings, with the release of a free download of their track called Tony Don't You Worry which they have just recorded with Shane Cullen in K9 studio, Deansgrange (where Misanthropy was also recorded incidentally). TDYW will be available to download for free from the 4th March 2011, with Mood Swings slated for a summer release.
